Loren Johnson, 91, resident of Buhl, passed away July 22, 2021.

Loren was born and raised in Buhl, Idaho. After graduating from high school, he joined the Navy during the Korean War. Loren was sent to officer training at Treasure Island for 18 months in the new Radar field. Loren served aboard the Attack Transport Cavalier as Petty officer 2nd class.

After four years in the Navy, Loren returned home to go into business with his father where they farmed and had a small dairy herd.

After selling the flower shop, Loren and Bonnie moved to Maui, Hawaii where they raised vegetables. Loren designed the first ever underground drip irrigation systems on the Islands. Many farmers from Maui came to observe this new technique.

The two returned to Buhl after several years in Maui where Loren turned to his true love of carpentry, retiring at the age of 79.
