Virgil Adams

July 26, 1928 — June 3, 2021

BUHL

Virgil Dean Adams, 92, of Buhl, Idaho, went to be with his Lord on June 3, 2021 in Henderson, Nevada.  Virgil was the second oldest child of Walter and Mildred Adams.  Virgil was born July 26, 1928, in Larrabee, Iowa.  The family later moved to Idaho in 1944.  Virgil was called to serve his country in Korea for 18-months from 1951 – 1953, and upon return from overseas, transferred to the US Army Reserve.  He was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal in August 1956.  When he returned to Twin Falls, he met and married Helga Annie Rommetvedt on July 25, 1954.  During their 61 years of marriage, the couple raised four children.  He was a member of the Lutheran Church.

Over the years, Virgil was employed as a long-haul truck driver, regional manager for Strevell Patterson and salesman for Intermountain Electric, both in Salt Lake City, Utah, and managed both the Motor Merc and Kirkham Auto Parts stores in Buhl.  He obtained his private pilot’s license, and the couple purchased an airplane.  The family enjoyed many trips to other states to visit family and friends.  He also enjoyed “buzzing” family and friends in the Magic Valley area.  After retirement, Virgil and Helga enjoyed camping and fishing either by themselves or with friends and family every summer.  They volunteered for Laborers for Christ and helped build Lutheran churches and other church buildings for several years.  During this same time period, he was employed part-time as a handyman for Wills in Twin Falls.  In 2020, Virgil moved to Henderson to be closer to his daughter.

Virgil excelled at woodworking and built furniture and many other small items which he referred to as his “doodads”.  He also had a passion for reading, especially books by Louis L’Amour.  When something happened, one of his favorite sayings was “So be it!!”.  He was a loving and devoted husband and father who constantly made sacrifices for the sake of his family and friends, and whose fierce love and powerful personality left an indelible impression on everyone whose lives he touched.  His loss will be deeply felt by all.

Virgil is survived by his brother, Roy (Rowene) of Henderson, Nevada; children, Carol of Henderson, Nevada and David of Nampa, Idaho; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lawrence; a sister, Arlene; his wife, Helga; and children, Dennis and Connie. A special thank you to his niece and nephew, Linda and Leonard Morris for their special care and love.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, August 13, 2021 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2055 Filer Ave. E., Twin Falls, Idaho with Pastor Roger Sedlmayr officiating.  The committal will follow at the West End Cemetery in Buhl at 2:00 pm.
