It is with heavy hearts we announce that on July 19, 2025, Alicia Ann Gellings age 44, peacefully passed away at a Twin Falls Hospital, surrounded and comforted by her loving family.
Alicia was born on December 14, 1980, to Joseph and Cheryl Gellings in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
She resided there on the family farm with her parents and her only sibling, her sister and best friend, Whitney. Alicia attended school in Idaho Falls during her elementary and junior high years. Her family moved to Buhl, Idaho in 1996, where she spent her high school years.
She loved and adored her family and especially her nieces and nephew. She delighted in any opportunity to be with them. She had a beautiful smile and a great sense of humor. She also had a wonderful talent for watercolor painting, puzzles and loved 70’s and 80’s music. The louder the better. She enjoyed the outdoors, golfing, shooting basketball free throws with her dad, riding in the tractor and any kind of animal. She participated in Special Olympics, loved the American flag and she knew no stranger.
Alicia’s life was full of medical challenges, as a survivor of an uncontrollable type of epilepsy that categorically was a world class case. She was a young pioneer for a wiser world; she traveled from a self-contained classroom to total integration with her peers. Many well-educated, successful professionals grew weak in the knees at the onset of the challenges Alicia represented. Those same people offered her challenges, expectations and demands that she rose to. Her leadership qualities with her peers were mind-altering. Her classmates confided that they used to think that especially abled people were different, even weird, but after Alicia entered their lives, they learned that they were just like them. In 1993, Alicia was chosen as both the Idaho and National “Winning Kid” for the Epilepsy Foundation of America. She had the honor of going to meet with Governor Cecil Andrus and President Bill Clinton. Alicia was here on a teaching mission; she had a special message to the world! As she spoke, we heard her and we’ll always be grateful to have been part of her journey. Her legacy will live on in the many people whose lives she touched.
Alicia is survived by her parents, Joe and Cheryl Gellings; sister, Whitney Alves (Herkie); nephew, Hayden Alves; nieces, Delainee, Zavery, Cora and Danica Alves; grandmother, Joyce Gellings; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and her special friend Mat Sobotka
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, John Gellings; grandparents, DeLynn and Beverly Hansen; uncle, Brad Hansen; aunt, DeAnne Rix.
She had some very special people in her life that we would like to recognize and thank. Carma and Randy Sobotka, Leah Barlett, Nora Gonzalez, Dr. John Steffens, Dr. Bryan Mason, Lisa Burgett and the Staff at St. Lukes Magic Valley for their loving and compassionate Care.
