Burton S. Harmon, 94, of Twin Falls and formerly of Buhl, died Friday, February 13, 2015 at St. Luke's Magic Valley Medical Center. Cause of death was from complications from an accidental fall.
Burton was born on October 22, 1920 to Arthur Harmon and Florence Caroline Patten Harmon in Longton, Kansas. His family moved to Nebraska three months later and lived and farmed near Orafino, NE until 1936 when the entire family came to Idaho. They farmed in the Magic Valley and Burton attended and graduated from Kimberly High School in 1940.
Burton married Edna Merle Brabb on April 11, 1943 in Buhl, Idaho. At this time, they commenced farming and ranching at various locations in the Magic Valley for the next 37 years He was active in the Grange for over 25 years holding all the leadership positions in the Grange at various times. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and held many offices within the church.
Burton and Edna retired from farming in 1979 in the Jerome area and relocated to Buhl where they lived in Melon Valley. He worked for the Twin Falls County Fair for over 20 years until retiring for the second time.
Burton and Edna moved to Twin Falls in 2013 to be closer to needed medical care and lived there until his death. He is survived by his wife, Edna; three sons, Harlen (Cecilia) of Eagle River, Alaska, Delbert (Edith) of Buhl, Idaho and Harold Lynn (Denice) of Shoshone, Idaho. Burton is also survived by three grandsons, Arthur, Justin, and Kenneth as well as 5 great grandchildren, Andrew, Corin, Kayla Ann, Nicholas Lee and Kayden Harmon as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Lowell, sisters Pyrna, LaVanche, Jean, and Nadine, and great grandson, Owen.
Burton's family would like to give special thanks to the nursing staff at St. Luke's Magic Valley Medical Center for their compassionate care and to Reggie, Alma and LeiRie of Encompass Home Health and Hospice for caring for Burton during the past three months.
Cremation was under the direction of Farmers Funeral Chapel of Buhl, Idaho. A memorial service will be celebrated 3:00 pm Friday, February 20, 2015 at Farmer Funeral Chapel, 130 North 9th Ave., Buhl, Idaho. In lieu of flowers, please make a charity contribution in Burton's memory to the charity of your choice.
