Christy Rene Burkhalter; 68, of Castleford/Buhl, Idaho, passed away unexpectedly leaving behind a legacy of hard work, humor, and a deep love for family and friends.
He was born on November 29, 1957, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Rene and Louise (Uptain) Burkhalter. He grew up here and received his education at Clover and Castleford Schools.
On June 27, 1982, Christy married the love of his life, Lou Ann Kinyon, at the Castleford United Methodist Church. Together their marriage of 44 years was filled with laughter, partnership, and countless memories.
Christy and his wife built a life centered around trucking, farming, and raising cattle on the family farm. He mastered the fine art of cobbling older machinery and fixing obsolete parts. He took pride in his work and was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to lend a helping hand while always putting others first.
He loved fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and four-wheeling. Most mornings you could find Christy at the Castleford Corner Merc catching up on the local gossip while enjoying a cup of coffee. He will be remembered for his mischievous spirit and sense of humor. He was known to be a bit of a prankster; always ready with a joke or playful trick. More than anything, he had a generous heart. He loved helping others and was always there when someone needed him. As many will remember, Christy often said, “Get up and get to living, especially living for the Lord—and don’t sweat the small stuff; it will all work out.”
He was preceded in death by his father, Rene Burkhalter; brother, Rocky Burkhalter; nephew, Christopher McCarrel, and a great niece Megan Burkhalter.
Christy is survived by his loving wife Lou Ann; mother, Louise Burkhalter; siblings Belle (Stan) Miller, Jeff Burkhalter, Becky (Lon) Mongomery; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
There was never a person who met Christy who didn’t love him. His laughter, kindness, and strong spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A funeral service will be held at Clover Trinity Lutheran Church on July 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. In honor of Christy’s vibrant personality and his dislike of traditional somber funerals, the family encourages attendees to wear bright-colored clothing as this will be a celebration of his life. The family takes comfort in knowing Christy is now at home in heaven with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
The family would especially like to thank the Castleford QRU, friends, neighbors, and the entire community for their prayers, visits, meals, and support.
In lieu of flowers we ask to continue his legacy by lending a helping hand to someone in need.
Memories and condolences may be shared with the family on Christy’s memorial webpage at www.farmerfuneralchapel.net.
