Dallas Lee Voorhees

April 24, 1933 — May 30, 2025

Dallas Lee Voorhees of Buhl, Idaho, was born April 24,1933 to William and Blanche Voorhees in Wisner, Nebraska. He was raised with 1 brother and 4 sisters. The family moved to Idaho when Dallas was about 10 years old. He graduated from Buhl High School. Quickly after graduating, Dallas joined the Air Force where he served in Germany during his 4-year commitment.

He married Bernita Connie French on November 20, 1955, in Buhl at St. John’s Lutheran Church. They were married for over 62 years when Bernita passed away on Feb 14, 2022. Between the years 1957 and 1962, they had 4 children.

Dallas loved spending time with friends and family. He met people wherever he went, and created friendships that lasted a lifetime. He loved sitting around socializing, teasing and laughing. He had a love for listening to country and gospel music, and you would see him tapping his foot and grabbing Bernita for a dance around the kitchen floor. He collected baseball caps just because. You would always find him relaxing with a good book, sometimes for hours on end. He will be remembered as a fun-loving guy with an ornery side that popped up from time to time.

Through the years, Dallas worked numerous jobs. His first jobs were farming. He then worked as a carpenter and construction worker on several dams and missile silos, until about 1965. He went back to working as a hired hand doing farmwork until 1971, before finishing his last 20+ years working at Pet Milk in Buhl. He retired when Pet Milk closed their doors in 1995.

Dallas and Bernita always enjoyed fellowship with their church families. Dallas was an elder as well as holding other positions of leadership in his church for several years, which he really enjoyed. When their children were in junior and senior high schools, they served as youth leaders. They opened their home to weekly youth Bible studies attended by youth from a variety of churches. The kids that attended this Bible study, and friends of the Voorhees children, hung around their home throughout the week and considered Dallas and Bernita as their second dad and mom.

Their three boys were involved in Boy Scouts. Dallas served as an assistant cub master for Cub Scouts. As the boys grew older, Dallas and Bernita helped out as needed with the Boy Scouts and the Order of the Arrow.

Dallas was preceded in death by his parents, William & Blanche (Parrill) Voorhees; Parents-in-laws, Earl & Connie (Chisham) French; siblings and (in-laws), David & (Virginia) Voorhees, Mildred & (Harry) Behrhorst, Shirley & (Ed) Roberts, and Marlene & (Glen) Herzinger, (Dale) French, (Wayne & Jane) French, (Roy) Murphy and (Rachell) French and; and grandson, Lee Voorhees.

He is survived by his children; Don and Heidi Voorhees, Garald “Dusty” and Kirsten Voorhees, Dan and Jayna Voorhees, and Cathleen and Dan Thom; his sibling and (in-laws), Sharlene (& Larry) Cooper, (Willard French), (Nancy Murphy), (Larry French), and (Kathi French); as well as 11 grandkids; Erica Rupp. Charity Voorhees, Dallas (and Jessica) Thom, Brenda (and Matt) Welch, Caleb Thom, Joseph (and Joye) Van Trimmell, Nicole “Coco”(and Mathew) Yaro, Thomas (and Rhema) Thom, Micah Voorhees, Cassidy (and Dominic) Hiland and Josiah Voorhees as well as 19 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
