Doris Rutherford

Doris M. Rutherford, 91, of Buhl, passed away February 11, 2014 at Applegate Assisted Living in Buhl.

Doris was born October 10, 1922 in Clinton, Iowa. In the 1930's, she moved to Castleford, Idaho from Durango, Colorado. She worked on farms in the area picking potatoes. One of her favorite jobs was working in the Buhl Animal Hospital as a veterinary technician. She later drove school bus, until her health forced her retirement.

She loved horses her whole life and rode horses for transportation in her younger years. She raised lambs on the farm and loved all animals. She always kept a cat as a companion, including most recently, Tali, who stayed with her right to the time of her death.

In the 1970's, she married Dudley Rutherford and they were happily married until he passed in 1981. Her and her husband enjoyed the outdoors, camping and fishing. She continued close relationships with Dudley’s children and grandchildren.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Applegate Assisted Living for their care of Doris in her final years. Also, thanks to Rick Lauda and Farmer’s National Bank, the Vivian Daiss family and close friend, Elizabeth Reinhold.

Survivors include her step-son, Rodney (Mary Jane) Rutherford of Arizona; grandchildren, Steve (Joyce) Rutherford of Boise, Id., Jenny (Barry) Lutterman of Colorado, Amy (Keith) Mills of Filer, Id., Brian (Brenda) Rutherford of Colorado; niece, Patricia Stewart of Meridian, Id.

A graveside funeral service will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the West End Cemetery in Buhl. A viewing will be 12:30 - 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, prior to the service at Farmer Funeral Chapel in Buhl.
