Edith Kaster

December 20, 1924 — June 8, 2017

Edith Marie Kaster of Buhl, Idaho passed away peacefully on June 8, 2017, surrounded by her family at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Twin Falls, Idaho after complications from a sudden stroke. Edith was born on December 20, 1924 in Denver, Colorado to Frank and Tuttie Oler. She spent her childhood in Denver attending school and later working for Mountain Bell Telephone Company. Edith met the love of her life Richard H. Kaster, a handsome Marine, in the winter of 1947. Their love journey began at the roller skating rink, when Richard caught Edith just as she was about to fall. They were married on July 23, 1949. In 1962, Edith, Richard and their six children, with one on the way, moved from Denver to Wendell, Idaho where they lived for three years before moving to Buhl. Edith loved her children dearly. Richard and Edith lived in Buhl for the remainder of their lives, making a living for themselves through farming trout and operating a hydroelectric plant. Many of their children still live in the Buhl area.

Edith enjoyed everything life had to offer. She treasured summer vacations with her family, shopping at Macy's, visiting the Buhl Senior Center and going on road trips with Richard to visit family in Colorado. She loved flowers, traveling to Wendover, the Denver Broncos and her cats. Edith was a longtime senior companion to many ladies in the Buhl area. She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and her faith was very important to her. We will miss her love, humor and generosity.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard; her son, Craig; two loving grandchildren, granddaughter, Cassie Marie Thomas and step grandson, Roger Vulgamore. She is also preceded in death by her brothers, Jimmy and Bobby, along with longtime senior companion and best-friend, Benjamin Briggs.

Edith is survived by her sister, Florence Lloyd of Littleton, Colorado and her sister-in-law, Elenor Oler of Lincoln, Nebraska. Edith leaves behind six children, Linda (Dale) Fleischman of Boise, Leslie (Lance) Leckenby of Buhl, Rick (Karen) Kaster of Twin Falls, Scott (Lillian) Kaster, Crystal (Lowell) Kaster, and Sherri (Clint) Allen, all of Buhl; 24 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Her daughter, Sherri Allen, had been her primary care giver, along with her other children, over the last few months. Even at 92 years young, Edith's adventurous spirit and wittiness never dulled. Edith's family is greatly appreciative and would like to thank all of the St. Luke's Doctors, staff and hospice team for their gentle care of Edith during her last days.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Buhl. A Rosary Vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at the church. A viewing will be from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday prior to the Rosary, also at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Farmer Funeral Chapel of Buhl, Idaho.
