Elda Probasco

February 27, 1920 — November 22, 2013

Elda Sylvia Probasco, 93, of Buhl, passed away at home with family, on November 22, 2013.

Mom was born in Frontier, Wyoming on February 27, 1920 to Rosa Giuliani and Louie Gabardi. Her father was killed in a mine cave-in when she was nine months old. She survived twin sisters who had died from cholera and a sister who died from appendicitis. Her mother took in boarders to help pay the bills. She met Louie Mendini, they married and moved to Buhl, Idaho to farm.

Elda had two brothers, Primo and Guido. She didn't speak English until Primo taught her so she could attend school. She went to school until the 8th grade when she quit to help take care of her sick mother.

In her twenties, she met Truman Probasco at a dance and they were married on June 30, 1946. Their first daughter, Terry, came in the big winter of 1949, their second daughter, Rosalie in 1951. In 1957 Dad got a new Ford Fairlane and Mom got her first son Lou. Then, oops in 1961 Tony was born.

Elda stayed busy raising the children and working in the yard and gardens. She loved cooking and caring for the family, sewing and crocheting. Truman worked at Buckendorf Tires as a re-capper. In 1988 Truman passed away.

With Mom alone, we took the privilege to take her to Sunday breakfasts, boat rides, long drives, trips to Lou's cabin and even a snowmobile ride. As time passed and she got older more time was spent at home and Tony started to cook and provide care for her. He is thankful that he got the opportunity to repay her for all that she did for him and his brothers and sisters.

The family would like to thank Dr. Slickers for the loving care and visits. Hospice Visions for the great care, Justine, Jamie, Paul and Kathy and all those who came by for visits. Tracy and Dee at River Rock Asssisted living for their assistance with the use of their van and Mom's bathes. Jeanne Hicks help with Mom to give us time off. The incredible "Momma" setters, Sandra Helsley, Max and Jacque Honbrook, Coleen, Cheryl, Rachel, Cheryl Jerel for coming by for Mom's hair cuts. John Wasko for giving her communion.

Elda is survived by her daughter, Terry (John) McKinley, grandsons, Joe, Zach (Jen), Tim; Daughter, Rosalie (George) McKinnis, granddaughter, Becky great-granddaughter, Morgan; Son, Lou (Vicky), granddaughter, Samantha (Brad) great-grandchildren Tyler, Aubrey, granddaughter, Andrea (Eric) great-granddaughter, Cheyanne, two more great-grandchildren on the way and Son, Tony.

She was preceded in death by her waiting parents, Rosa and Louie; husband, Truman; brothers, Guido and Primo and granddaughter, Penny Lynn.
