GOODING

Eugene Marion Herzinger, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on December 21, 2025, at the age of 87 in Gooding, Idaho. Born on July 7, 1938, in Beemer, Nebraska, Gene's remarkable life was characterized by his dedication to family, a strong work ethic, and a passion for the things he loved.

Gene began his career as a mechanic, working diligently at Andy & Bob's Dealership in Buhl. His expertise in automotive mechanics led him to significant roles within the State of Idaho Port of Entry, where he served as a supervisor at both Bliss Port of Entry and District #3 Port of Entry. His commitment to his work and his community was evident throughout his career.

Education played a significant role in Gene's life; he graduated from Buhl High School and pursued further training in auto mechanics at Boise Jr. College. These academic achievements paved the way for a successful career that he took great pride in.

A man of wisdom and kindness, Gene is remembered for his invaluable life lessons. He often reminded his children, “When you go to the store, buy TWO,” and encouraged them to “Take care of your stuff so you don't have to buy it again!” These simple phrases encapsulated his philosophy on life and resonated with those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Gene married the love of his life, Carolyn, on October 7, 1960, at Clover Trinity Lutheran Church in Buhl, Idaho. Together, they built a warm and loving family. Gene was deeply devoted to his wife and their children, wanting nothing but the best for each member of his family. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; son, Kelly (Debbie) Herzinger; daughter, Laurie (Michael) Bachmann; grandchildren: Zachary and Chase (Michi) Herzinger, Rachel, Katelyn, Jonathan, and David Bachmann.

Throughout his life, Gene also dedicated time to military service with the Idaho National Guard. He was a proud member of both the National Riflemen's Association and the American Association of Retired Persons. In his personal life, Gene's hobbies blossomed as he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping in his youth, and later took great pleasure in restoring antique tractors.

Following his retirement, Gene embraced a new adventure by spending seven summers working at Canyon Village in Yellowstone National Park, creating cherished memories in one of nature's most beautiful settings.

Gene leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and respect. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. A visitation will be held on December 27, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM at Bliss Community Church, located at 503 US-30, Bliss, Idaho 83314.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Emily Herzinger; sister, Darleen Eggleston; brothers, Glen and Leland Herzinger; and son, Kent Eugene Herzinger. Gene's enduring spirit and love will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.

Favorite bible verse: Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 : To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven.
