George Cubbedge

February 20, 1934 — June 23, 2025

BUHL

It is with deep sadness and great love that we announce the passing of George Cubbedge, aged 91, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and a treasured member of our family. He passed away in Kodiak, Alaska, on June 23, 2025, after a brief illness surrounded by family and love.

Born in 1934 on a small farm outside of Savannah, Georgia to parents Ottis and Laura Cubbedge, George was one of 15 children. He grew up picking cotton and working in the tobacco fields.

George joined the United States Air Force and was in California when he met the love of his life, Joan Lora Watkins. Their bond was one of deep commitment, laughter, and friendship. Together, they raised two children, Thomas (Shelley) and Jill (Georgia) who carry forward his legacy of strength and kindness.

George and Joan moved their family to Kodiak in 1964. He spent much of his life as a barber. For decades, his one-chair barber shop was more than just a place for a trim or a shave; it was a gathering spot filled with stories, laughter and the kind of wisdom that only comes with time.

George was a true character – full of southern charm. He was the proud grandfather to four grandsons, Jordan (Kayla), Taylor (Ashley), Colton (Michelle), and Gage (Alyssa) who he adored and a doting great-grandfather to nine.

A private burial will be held on June 28, 2025, at the Buhl Cemetery.

The family requests no flowers, please.

We will miss him dearly, but we are grateful for every moment that we had with him. Rest easy Gramps. Your chair may be empty, but your love remains all around us.

Memories and condolences may be shared with the family on George’s memorial webpage at www.farmerfuneralchapel.com.
