Harold Eck

November 14, 1944 — August 15, 2023

Buhl

Harold Eck was born on November 14, 1944 to Jacob and Rosella Eck in Atwater, California. He passed away at Buhl, Idaho on August 15, 2023 at the age of 78 years.

Dad was taught a good work ethic as a young boy and this tenacity and perseverance was a characteristic of his entire life. He was never fast but he never stopped till the job was done. Dad worked in many and varied occupations but considered carpentry his primary skill. He managed his own construction business for many years and his customers valued the quality of the work performed and the love and integrity he poured into each project.

He was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite by minister Lincoln Jantz at Glenn, California on December 11, 1956. He lived faithful to those vows his entire life.

He married our mother, Edith Elaine Loewen, on July 4, 1965 at Glenn, California. They shared 58 wonderful years of marriage. To this union were born 3 sons and 3 daughters. Dad and mom moved to Buhl, Idaho in 1969 along with their 3 young children. They were one of the early families in the Buhl, Idaho area. He was ordained to the ministry in Buhl at the age of 33. Dad spent his spiritual energy unselfishly shepherding established and new congregations in southwestern Idaho over the last 45 years of his life. Dad missed leading songs after his ordination to the ministry, but he graciously accepted the change.

Folks relocated to Bruneau, Idaho in spring of 1981 and lived there until 1990. We as a family have many fond memories of the years in this small congregation. A memory special to all of us is the many evenings spent singing together. Dad and mom were one of the last families to leave when this small group disbanded. At that time, they moved back to the Buhl, Idaho congregation.

In 2003, Dad and Mom felt called to spend some time in foreign mission work and were sent to the Ukraine. They, along with their youngest son, Shawn, spent 5 years there.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Edith; their children, Laura and Jerry Unruh of Grafton, North Dakota; Stan and Jolene Eck of Paxton, Nebraska; Rachel and Brent Mastre of Grandview, Idaho; Paula and Brian Giesbrecht of Glenn, California; Vince and Barb Eck of Goshen, Indiana; and Shawn and Marilyn Eck of Buhl, Idaho; 22 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. He is also survived by all of his 6 siblings and 8 of his wife’s siblings. He was predeceased by his parents; parents in law; 1 brother-in-law, Maynard Loewen; and 2 granddaughters, Shana Mastre and Heidi Eck.
