Janice Ramsey Jensen was born in Filer on August 4, 1929, to Earl and Ruth Ramsey. She grew up in Filer during the years of the Great Depression and graduated from Filer High School with the Class of 1947. She went to college at Linfield in McMinnville, Oregon, with a piano scholarship. She later transferred to the College of Idaho in Caldwell, Idaho, graduating Summa Cum Lauda with a degree in English. She began teaching Senior English at Buhl High School, continuing for the next 30 years.
Janice married Gerald Jensen and moved to the Jensen farm where she remained until the end of her life. Together they had one son, Jerry.
Janice’s many interests and activities kept her life busy; piano playing, dancing, snow and water-skiing, white-water rafting, and traveling in Europe. One memorable experience was a river cruise down the Danube from Budapest to the Black Sea with her friend, Petra Thompsen.
Janice was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. She was also a long time member of the PEO Sisterhood and Mentor Club.
Janice is survived by her daughter-in-law, Mary Jensen; granddaughters, Erica Jensen and Amy Asher; and great-grandchildren, Violet Zimmerman, Eli Zimmerman, Maribel Asher, and Dylan Asher. She is also survived by nieces, Camille Ramsey of Boise, Deanne Ramsey of Buhl, and Nina Ramsey of Twin Falls; as well as nephews, Guy Ramsey of Twin Falls, Kelly Murphey of Castleford, and many others.
Special thanks to Janice’s daughter-in-law, Mary, who lovingly cared for her through each stage of her later years. Janice was able to remain in her home on the farm until the end, watching the birds and reading her books.
Memories and condolences may be shared with the family on Janice’s memorial webpage at www.farmerfuneralchapel.com.
