Jim Armitage

June 4, 1938 — February 24, 2021

BUHL

Jim Armitage, 82, passed away peacefully at home on February 24, 2021 with family by his side.  He recently experienced health issues which confined him to a bed.  He enjoyed having family and friends near him, never losing his spirit or sense of humor.

He was born June 4, 1938 at home in Southwick, Idaho near the small town of Kendrick.  He grew up in the canyon towns of Kendrick and Juliaetta, 27 miles from Moscow and Lewiston, attending grade school in Juliaetta and graduating from Kendrick High School in 1956.  He graduated from the College of Idaho in 1960 with a Bachelor's degree in physical education minoring in health and social studies.  It was at the College of Idaho that he met Ann Morris.  They were married when he was a sophomore, and she was a freshman.  He later received a master’s degree in Education from the University of Northern Colorado.

Jim taught high school and coached four years in Council, Idaho before joining the Air Force in 1964.  He attended Officer Training School then served as Personal Services Director while stationed in Libya, Thailand and Iceland.  After completing Minuteman Missile School, he served as Missile Site Crew Commander in Cheyenne and Great Falls.

Upon retiring from the Air Force in 1984 he moved to the Buhl family farm and drove truck for Dennis Clark for 14 years.  Dennis told Jim's sons “Jim was the only driver who could turn a one-day trip into two because he told so many stories along the way.”

Jim was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Buhl and the VFW.

Jim's hobbies were hunting big game, fishing, camping and helping on the farm.  He was a scout leader and little league coach for his sons.  He loved his family and wouldn't miss his grandson's ballgames.  He watched the entire 2020-21 Buhl High basketball varsity games at home on television.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Inez Armitage; and his sister, Joyce.  Jim is survived by Ann, his wife of 62 years; his sons, Greg and Brad Armitage; grandsons, AJ, Joe and Jaxon Armitage; bothers, Jerry Armitage and Max Armitage.

To all our family, neighbors, EMT team, hospital staff and Visions Hospice we give a special thanks for the love and caring comfort while Jim was confined at home for the past two months.
