John William Haxby age 90, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2026. He was the second of eight children born to William and Hilda Haxby. He married Lena Browne on September 3, 1960, in Rupert, Idaho. To this union came three daughters, Jody 1961 (stillborn), Jill 1962 and Julie in 1965.
John served in the Army from 1955 to 1957 as a radar operator at camp Hanford, Washington. He then farmed from 1958 to 1965. In 1966 he went to work for the BLM. In the fall of 1967, they had him move to Buhl. He enjoyed working out of his home rather than the Burley office until he retired in the fall of 1994. John was involved with the first sage grouse working group that started in the summer of 1994. He stayed with the group for 20 years as a retiree.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Lena in 2008. He also was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Margaret Justinsen, Sandra Faraday and Gena Dill.
He is survived by his daughters, Jill Pace and Julie De Witt; brothers, Gerald Haxby and James Haxby; sisters, Linda McFarland and Judy Sower. Many nieces and nephews and grandchildren, Cole De Witt and Amanda De Witt.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 10, 2026, 1:00pm at Minidoka Acequia Rupert Cemetery.
