Larry Barlogi

December 9, 1924 — April 21, 2013

Larry Dale Barlogi, 88, of Hagerman, passed away April 21, 2013 at Poplar Grove Assisted Living in Glenns Ferry, Idaho.
Larry was born at home in Hagerman, December 9, 1924 the son of Rex and Nora Belle Barlogi. His family's property was near the Snake River and Larry learned to fish when he was a young boy. As soon as the work was done for the day, he would be at the river fishing. The area also afforded him access to bird and game hunting. He had a love of outdoors and taught his children and grandchildren to love and respect the art of hunting and fishing.
When Larry was finished with school, he joined the U.S. Navy to aid in the effort of World War II. With his marksman skills, he quickly became an aerial gunnery instructor. After his service in the war he returned to Hagerman to work with his dad on their ranch. One day, he was at a community dance and saw a beautiful young girl named Patricia, who was in town visiting relatives. Within two weeks of meeting, Larry asked Pat to marry him. Pat's mom, being practical, suggested the couple wait until after Christmas to make sure they still wanted to marry. On December 28, 1949 they did indeed marry.
After this union the couple began an adventure together, which led them and their three children to move to countless cities and towns around the United States working construction projects for Morrison - Knutson. Larry helped build dams in the Hell's Canyon and spent 33 years with the company finishing with a project in Columbia. After retirement, he and Pat returned to Hagerman to enjoy their retirement.
Larry continued his love of hunting and fishing in Idaho and was a rock hound and gem collector, making jewelry out of some of his finds.
Larry was preceded in death by one son Bill Barlogi in 2009; his brother, Garland Barlogi and sister, Nedra Buckmaster.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Patricia "Pat" Barlogi of Hagerman; son, Rex (Carole) Barlogi of Gillette, Wy.; daughter, Ann (Tom) Johnston of Coeur D' Alene, Id.; grandchildren, Ben (Melanie) Johnston, Leah Johnston and Jimmy Johnston and great-granddaughter Olivia Johnston.
A graveside service for Larry will be 10 a.m., Monday, May 27, 2013 (Memorial Day) at the Hagerman Cemetery. A gathering for friends and family will be held at 12:15 p.m. at the Hagerman Senior Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hagerman Cemetery District.
