Larry D. Gore

July 13, 1951 — May 5, 2025

Buhl

Larry Don Gore was born Friday July 13, 1951, in Odessa, Texas, and passed peacefully into eternity on May 5, 2025, in Buhl, Idaho. Born to Gerald Eugene and Ruth Wanell (Miller) Gore. Larry was the eldest of five children.

Larry graduated from Odessa High School in 1969 after transferring from Ector Jr. High School. Larry excelled on the swimming team as well as being a popular student. After graduation Larry tried college and decided the time wasn’t right. He joined the United States Navy and made it his first career retiring after 24 years of active duty as a Master Chief Boiler Technician. Much of his time was spent aboard ships and while stationed in San Diego, he married his first wife Regina (Nunes) and gained a son, Robert. Their union was additionally blessed with a daughter, Marci. The family moved to the San Francisco Bay Area for the rest of his career. Larry and Regina divorced, but remained friends throughout his life.

Larry met another sailor and married Pam (Wetzstein) Hartman while stationed at NAS Moffett Field working as a drug and alcohol counselor. Larry gained two more daughters through this union, Emily Garrison and Josie Hartman.

Larry retired from the Navy in 1994 as the base closed and moved to Monterey California as Pam finished her career in the Navy a year later. They then moved to Pam’s hometown in Idaho, and he lived there until his death. Larry attended college in Idaho, and while earning his degree in social work was employed at the Children’s Detention Center where he met many troubled youths, which helped him to shape his career working with young people.

After graduating college, he worked for Child Protection Services reuniting families after separation. He left there and started providing psychosocial rehabilitation services (PSR) with children and their parents. He finally retired at age 63 and got to fish full time.

Larry asked Jesus to be his Savior at a young age, and with that came the love of God that he shared with so many over his lifetime. The last words to his brother Jesse, were “preach love, that’s what Jesus is all about.” Larry shared that love by teaching bible study at a local church in Idaho. Larry always encouraged his family and friends to be the hands and feet of Jesus, and he would encourage you to do the same thing, and to not miss Heaven, it is amazing.

Larry is survived by his children, Robert (Celeste), Marci Carter, Josie Hartman, and Emily (Will) Garrison. He has seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren; sister, Sally (Don Allison); brothers, Jesse (Penny) and Tim (Devra). Also, numerous friends, too many to mention except for the gals at the Oasis who were his top sweethearts especially Kelly, who kept the family informed of his declining health. Many thanks to his life-long friend, Gary Yeary.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Eddie; and many brothers and sisters-in-law, as well as cousins.

Larry was blessed with many friends at home and around the world.

Larry’s celebration of life will be held at a future date.
