Larry Ralph Hulme

Feb 5, 1933 — May 22, 2026

BUHL

Larry Ralph Hulme, our beloved father, grandfather (Pop), brother and friend, passed away on May 22, 2026. He joins his sweetheart Shirley Hulme who passed on April 24, 2026. This year on their anniversary June 2nd, they would have been married 71 years.

Larry was born on February 5, 1936, in Buhl, Idaho. He was the third child out of five and the third boy born to Ralph and Thelma Hulme. Larry was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Even as a young child he had incredible faith, he understood how much our Heavenly Father loves and cares for each one of us and the importance of our Savior Jesus Christ.

Larry grew up in Hagerman; he grew up working on his family’s farm. In his free time, he could be found down the road swimming or fishing in Billingsley Creek. He spent his summers in Ketchum where his father was involved in trucking sheep. He loved his summers in the mountains camping on the shores of the Wood River and he could often be found with a fishing pole in hand.

Larry attended school in Hagerman, Idaho, graduating in 1951. Larry was a good student, very sociable and played on the football team. Larry worked at the movie theater in Hagerman, setting up and playing the reel-to-reels. He was paid 1 silver dollar a day. During high school, Larry met a beautiful girl from Buhl named Shirley Roberts. Larry and Shirley were on a double date with other people. While dancing Larry decided he wanted to switch partners and dance with Shirley instead, and the rest is history. The sweethearts dated throughout high school and were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on June 2, 1955.

To this union came two children, a girl named Kathi and a boy named Randi. Shirley and Larry raised their family in Buhl, Idaho. The family enjoyed travelling and often took trips to see family in the Bay area. They visited Hawaii and Mexico each several times. A highlight was a fishing trip Larry and Shirley took with their son Randi to the Oregon Coast. They enjoyed time in the mountains and counted Redfish Lake as one of their favorite spots.

Larry was a hard worker and a jack of all trades. If he could imagine it, he could build it. He worked for PET Milk in Buhl Idaho for 40+ years, until retirement.

Larry and Shirley were a complimentary team in everything that they did. They crafted their dream home from the ground up. They would work all day in town and spend the evenings working on their house. What an example of hard work and determination. They built their home using the finest materials. It was well styled and decorated for every season. They created a beautiful yard, garden, and orchard. Many happy hours were spent with family and friends in this park like setting.

Larry was an avid outdoorsman throughout his life. He had patience for the hunt and was a great shot. He never met a fish he didn’t want to hook. He took great pleasure in hunting and fishing with his son Randi and son-in-law Robert and with his grandchildren.

Family brought Larry a lot of joy and he enjoyed a closeness with his siblings throughout his life. Larry has been blessed with six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A visit to see Larry and Shirley was always a great joy met with delightful conversation, good food, a warm fire and lots of love.

Larry Hulme is survived by his children; Kathi Meyers and Randi (Cassie) Hulme; grandchildren, Morgan (Robyn) Meyers, Monica (Trevor) Ware,(Emily Meyers), and Dantte, Erin and Ryan Hulme; and great grandchildren, Jocelyn (Jeremy) Evans and Beckton Meyers; Andre, Miles, Beau and Johan Ware; Eleanor, Sophia, John, Lydia, and Evelyn Meyers; and Alice Carmack. He is also survived by his sister, Thelma Brown.

Larry is preceded in death by his sweetheart Shirley Hulme, by his parents; Ralph and Thelma Hulme, by his brothers; Bobby Hulme, Ronald Hulme and Blaine (Sandy) Hulme; his son-in-law, Robert Meyers, and his grandson, Martin Meyers.

The family would like to express gratitude for the gentle care and kindness shared to Larry and Shirley Hulme by Visions Hospice and Grace Assisted Living/Memory Care.
