In one of the worst blizzards to hit Twin Falls County, Shawn Gould was born to Dale and Shirley Gould on November 5, 1948. Shawn was the oldest of three siblings, Kipton (Sharon) Gould and Celia (Bruce Newcomb), of Buhl.
From Shawn’s first marriage he was blessed with his three children, Glenda Gould, Layne (Michelle) Gould of Citrus, California, and Garrett (Kelsey) Gould of Buhl.
In 1999 Shawn married Ruth Sullivan. They were married for 24 years. Prior to getting married they dated for 2 years, even though the first year they only had one date and never spoke again. With this marriage came Ruth’s two children, Amber Brown of Buhl, and Paul (Terrilynn) James of Billings, Montana. Together Shawn and Ruth have five children, six grandchildren, and one great grandson.
From a young boy, Shawn had farming in his blood. He learned the ropes from his dad Dale, grandpa Glenn, and uncle Glenn (Snooks). He had a deep love and devotion to farming. You would be hard pressed to find a better farmer. In the early days the Gould family raised registered Black Angus cattle. The entire family was involved in showing cattle from Idaho to Utah, winning in many classes.
When Shawn was in High School, he loved music. He played trombone in high school and 1st chair trombone in college. Later, he joined two other bands that played for dances and gatherings.
In 2008 Shawn and Ruth built a new home which they have enjoyed over the years. Shawn loved farm life, but was not a fan of raising livestock. More than once, Ruth came up with the idea to add livestock to the farm. Shawns response was, “you can have whatever you can take care of”. He would also say, “I’ve been stepped on, kicked, bucked off, and bit by as many animals as I care to”!
Later in life Shawn became an avid fisherman. He whiled away many a day fishing with his friends and family from Alaska to Hawaii. He also spent many hours in his man cave tying flies and making lures. Anyone who knew Shawn, has had a taste of his humor, including Ruth who last year noticed his prize lures showing up on the Christmas tree and of course Shawn expecting a reaction!
Shawn was diagnosed with cancer 13 years ago. With Shawn’s love for life, and in only Shawn’s fashion, did he courageously and valiantly battle to the very end. A stronger, more determined man you will never find.
Shawn was thrilled with the arrival of his Grandson, Oliver. Every Sunday possible was spent with his namesake, Oliver Shawn Gould.
Shawn was preceded in death by his grandparents, Glenn and Ruth Gould; parents, Dale and Shirley Gould; and granddaughter, Alivya Gould.
