Mary Margaret Iverson was taken to heaven by a host of winged angels on April 25, 2014. Mary passed at her home, in Buhl Idaho, with her loving husband of 45 years at her side, after a 30 year battle with cancer. She was 66 at the time of her passing.
Mary was born in Twin Falls, Idaho on June 16, 1947 to Frank and Emma Karel. Mary was one of eight children, with 4 sisters and 3 brothers. Mary’s childhood was spent on the farm with her family. As a child, Mary joined her three older sisters, and one younger sister, in the singing group they formed, “The Karel Sister’s”. The group performed live for various events, at Supper Clubs, and on the KART radio station, as well. She attended grade school at Lucerne school near their home , and junior high and high school in Buhl, Idaho. Mary and her siblings participated in 4-H. Mary was a cheerleader in high school, very friendly, and well liked by all. After high school Mary attended Beauty College in Twin Falls, Id., where she earned her cosmetology license, which she still holds today.
After high school, Mary met and dated her soul mate, Wayne Edwin Iverson. The couple were married at the Immaculate Conception Church on May 18, 1968 in Buhl, Idaho. Mary and Wayne raised three children, Teresa, Amy, and Mark. Mary was a constant supportive and loving presence in her children’s lives. She was always active in their sporting and school events, and was a 4-H leader for her daughters. She enjoyed camping, gardening, and quality time with family and friends. The family was named for Family of the Month in 1998 and 2002, and Family of the Year in 1998.
At the same time she raised her family, Mary managed to work as a Laboratory Technician, and various other positions, for 37 years, at Green Giant/Seneca. Mary also continued to practice cosmetology for family and friends. Mary was passionate about sharing her love of music through singing. She shared her talents at countless weddings, funerals, and in community Cantata's and choirs. She also sang regularly in her own church. Mary and “The Karel Sisters” produced a CD “Christmas at Home” in 2005 . Mary was always active in her church activities and fund raisers. She was often president of the Buhl Council of Catholic Women, and also held a state office in the Idaho Council of Catholic Women. Mary was nominated twice, and awarded Woman of the Year 2011-2012.
Despite her own health issues, Mary was always concerned about others. She cared for her own mother for 2 months before her passing, and has assisted in caring for her mother in law for several years.
