Neil Stiegemeier

November 18, 1929 — March 20, 2013

Neil D. Stiegemeier, 83 of Filer, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at St. Luke's Magic Valley Hospital after a sudden illness, with his loving family by his side.
Neil was born November 18, 1929, to Henry and Elsie Stiegemeier in Harvard, Nebraska. He moved to Twin Falls with his family at the age of 10. He graduated from Twin Falls High School. After school, he joined the Navy on Jan. 15, 1951 and served for two years on an ammunition ship. He was then stationed in Keyport, Washington and served on a torpedo training ship. Neil was discharged Dec. 9, 1954 and was very proud of his service with the Navy. Upon returning to Idaho, he attended Twin Falls Business College until the grass turned green, when he decided to pursue a career in farming. While in college he met Janice Brewer. They were married September 3, 1955.
He farmed in Kimberly two years before moving to Buhl to farm. Neil enjoyed working on his farm and could often be seen with his dog and a grandkid by his side. He was a member of the Salmon River Cattleman's Association for many years. He always looked forward to the fall cattle round up riding his beloved horse. He retired from farming and moved to Filer in 2004. Neil enjoyed travelling and spending winters in Arizona. When he was home he looked forward to spending many hours visiting at the coffee shop.
Neil is survived by his wife, Janice of 57 years; sons, Mark Stiegemeier, John (Cindy) Stiegemeier; daughters, Dawna (Tom) Adamson, Cathy (Richard) Carter; grandchildren, Branden, Andrea, Mitch and Annie Carter, Samantha and Dustin Stiegemeier, T.J., Vince, and April Adamson; great grandchildren, Dyllan and James; sister-in-law, Melba Stiegemeier and his dog Brandy. He was preceeded in death by his parents, brother Keith, grandson Shawn Carter.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Buhl; visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 25 at Farmer Funeral Chapel in Buhl. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to Filer Quick Response, St. John's Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.
