Shirly Ray Barron passed away November 12, 2025, at a Buhl care facility.
Shirly was born in Castleford, Idaho on March 10, 1931, to H.R. (Ray) and Ethel Pettijohn. Shirly grew up on the family homestead in Castleford along with her brother William and sister Fay, all of whom have preceded her in death.
Shirly attended school in Castleford and Walla Walla, WA and at the University of Idaho as a Drama Major.
Shirly was baptized May 29, 1949, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Walla Walla. When she returned to Castleford she became a dedicated member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Buhl. Her commitment to her faith community was unwavering and she served as the church organist for many years.
Shirly married Thomas Barron on November 10, 1956. Together they farmed and raised three children; daughters, Caroline Higgins Brady and Jennifer Wiggins and son; David Barron. They actively farmed until 1995 and then enjoyed retirement on the farm and traveled in the west and to Alaska.
Tom passed in 2001 and after a period of grieving, Shirly asked herself “what do you want to do with the rest of your life” and the answer was “play as hard as I can!” Shirly bought a motorcycle and started riding seriously in 2007.
Many alive today remember Shirly as an inspiration to love God and live life to the fullest. She embraced riding motorcycles at the age of 74, and yes, she had a Harley Davidson (trike). Shirly rode with the many friends she met during her travels and with the Harley Owners Group. She rode with the Women Who Ride Conga raising money in support of breast cancer research, made the trek to Alaska, numerous places in the west, and yes, Sturgis too!
She was a generous person and supported the Valley House Homeless Shelter, Boys & Girls Clubs, CASA, Tough Enough to Wear Pink, West End Food Pantry, Senior Centers, Habitat for Humanity, The Wounded Knee Memorial Rides and the Castleford QRU.
Family always remained central to her life’s purpose and joy. She is survived by her daughters; Caroline and Jennifer, her son; David, four granddaughters; Annabelle, Lindzay, Rikki and Callie, and 6 great grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church 229 9th Avenue, Buhl, ID.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Castleford QRU.
