Vernon Donald Olander of Buhl passed away on April 27, 2026, from heart failure with his loving family by his side.
Vernon was born June 7, 1932, to Clarence H. Olander & Mary Violet Olander in Martin, South Dakota. He moved to Idaho with his family when he was 8 years old. He attended Deep Creek School.
At an early age, Vernon and his siblings worked topping and hoeing onions for Magic Valley farmers. Later in life he worked as a sheep herder. He served in the Air Force in the secret service 1951-1955. Once he got out of the service, Vernon started and operated his own custom farming business for several years.
He did and enjoyed doing fabrications in his shops throughout his lifetime.
Vernon had five children with his first wife, Janet Riggs Olander; son, Rick Olander (Cynthia); daughter, Sherri Tyler; daughter, Camelia Olander; son, Rocky Olander and son, Rusty Olander (Susan).
After 18 years of marriage to Janet, Vernon married Shirley Clemens on May 5, 1972. This added stepdaughter, Lori (John) Lena and stepson, Charlie Clemens who passed away with muscular dystrophy at the age of 17.
Vernon has several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren who he loved very much.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Olander; son, Rocky Olander; stepson, Charlie, as well as his parents and all his siblings: Max Olander, Marie Clark, Dean Olander, Doris Achenbach and Frank Olander.
Vernon was baptized and dedicated as one of the Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1984. He, along with his wife, Shirley, enjoyed many Kingdom Hall builds and remodels with friends in the RBC. Vernon remained faithful in his faith and engaged with his many friends; he loved them all.
Thank you to the St Luke’s Hospice team, with a special thank you to Cortney and Stephanie; the team at Twin Falls Care Center of Cascadia, the Helping Hands Ladies; Julie, Lori and Shirley, and his granddaughters; Kira and DeJean, who all helped with Dad. He taught several of the ladies how to play the game sequence which he immensely enjoyed. Thank you as well to all the family and friends who were there to care for and be supportive during this time.
Vernon stayed witty and friendly with all who he came to know. He will be missed immensely.
As Dad would always say: So long.
A service will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Buhl Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah Witnesses located at 912 Milner Street Buhl, Idaho.
