Vernon Leroy Rodig, 80, of Buhl, Idaho passed away Friday, April 20, 2018 at Woodland Retirement Estates in Buhl.
Vern was born on December 5, 1937 to Henry Alvin and Minnie Sara Rodig. He was lovingly welcomed into the family by his older siblings, LaVerna, Delores and Leonard. He was born in the house in which he was raised.
Vern attended school in Buhl, graduating in 1955. He enjoyed playing football and basketball and playing in the marching band. He would suit up for football and at half time change uniforms and play in the marching band. For a few years after High School, Vern enjoyed playing Outlaw Basketball.
After graduating from High School, Vern married his Jr. High and High School sweetheart Beverly Elaine Ewell. Vern and Beverly remained in Buhl where they raised their four children, Kim, Pam, Brian and Dina.
Vern made his career working for Roper’s Clothing Store. He was a loyal employee for 43 years, 20 plus years during which he was Manager. He loved outfitting his kids and grandkids for school and sports. He would also donate athletic socks to the high school basketball team, so all the players would have uniform socks to wear during their games.
Vern enjoyed all manner of outdoor activities, including, hunting, camping, arrowhead hunting, water skiing and floating the East Fork of the Boise River. Many, many family camping trips were spent in the South Hills on Browns Bench and Featherville, Id. Where a multitude of wonderful, fun and very cherished family moments and memories were created.
After retirement, Vern and Beverly purchased a vacation home at Murphy Hot Springs, Id. They enjoyed many off road adventures with family and many wonderful new friends they made there.
Vern is survived by his wife Beverly; children, Kim (Linda), Pam (Randy), and Dina; grandchildren, Brandon (Stephanie), Brandy (T.J.), Braden (Emily), Colby and Payton and one great-grandson Jameson and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, LaVerna and Delores; brother, Leonard; son, Brian; son-in-law, Brian Tadlock and grandson Aaron Tadlock.
The family would like to thank Hospice Visions especially Alyssa, Steven, Joel and Carl and the wonderful staff at Woodland Retirement Estates for their kind and loving care given to our beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday April 25, 2018 at the First Christian Church in Buhl. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Farmer Funeral Chapel in Buhl.
