Virginia Unruh

December 29, 1932 — April 8, 2015

Virginia Eva Decker Unruh was born to Isaac and Susie Dirks Decker on December 29, 1932 at Sedgwick, Kansas. She peacefully passed away in her sleep on April 8, 2015 at Evergreen Assisted Living in Buhl, Idaho. She reached the age of 82 years.

She received her education and spent her childhood and youth years on the family farm. Growing up in a lively household, she even did the chicken chores the morning of her wedding. While in her youth, she was converted and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite by Min. Abe T. Koehn. She remained faithful to these vows through life.

On November 25, 1956, Mother was united in marriage to Paul Unruh at Halstead, Kansas. To this union were born one daughter and three sons, one of which died at birth. They were blessed with fifty years together. In 2007, Dad passed away which left Mom very lonely. Their early married years were spent in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. They, together with their children, spent a very special two and one half years in Navajo land at the Greasewood and Wide Ruins missions. Those years were a big highlight to Mom. In 1974, they moved to Buhl, Idaho, where they raised their children on the farm. In 1979, the family moved to Bruneau, Idaho. Six years later she and Paul moved back to Buhl, where she spent the remainder of her life.

Mom was a lover of roses. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, working in her garden and tending to her flowers. She had a special gift of putting bouquets together which she then shared with many people.

In Mother's later years there was a softening of her spirit. We appreciated this evidence of God's grace working in her life. She liked to sing and her song never left her. She was heard singing in her rocker a few days before God called her home.

Left to cherish precious memories are her children, Kenneth and wife, Virginia of Bonners Ferry, Id., Susan and husband, Roland Koehn of Buhl, Id., Bruce and wife, Vicki of Buhl, Id.; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn and husband, Marion Jantz of Nevada, Mo.; step-sister-in-law, Annie Unruh of Bonners Ferry, Id.; brother-in-law, Leonard and wife, Ruth of Grafton, N.D.; sisters-in-law, Lillie and husband, Cyril Mastre of Grant, Nebraska and Regina Unruh of Bonners Ferry, Id.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one infant son, her parents, four brothers and four sisters.

The family wishes to extend a special thank-you to the staff at Evergreen Place for the wonderful care they gave to our mother.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the Buhl Mennonite Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Farmer Funeral Chapel in Buhl.
