Joel "Joey" Christensen

September 16, 1991 — April 11, 2021

BUHL

Joel “Joey” Simon Christensen, 29, of Buhl, Idaho, flew into the arms of our Lord on April 11, 2021.
He was born September 16, 1991 to Gertie and Ron Christensen, who later divorced. As he grew, his brothers, Tyler and Ryan, went to school and he couldn’t wait until it was his turn, so he decided to get prepared. But he struggled to remember his birthday, so his momma came up with “Remember September and sweet sixteen”. That stuck and he would repeat that phrase even in his adult years bringing a smile to all his family members who knew the story behind it.
Throughout school, his summers were consumed spending time with his Uncle Mike and his best friend and cousin, Jesse. They had many adventures together. One being going to the country store on their bikes and buying six packs of pop to bring back to the dairy and sell individually for a profit. Another being the Christmas at Grammy’s where Uncle Mike had bought tickets to the BSU Fiesta Bowl for his children. His cousin Katie gave her ticket to Joey so he could go with Jesse, which ended up being one of the highlights of his life.
He graduated from Buhl High School in 2010, then taking some courses in college expanding his knowledge of the computer world. He worked in different fields of employment seeking his niche in life.
Though he didn’t find his niche in the working field, he did with his heart when he met Jen. It was love at first sight and they were inseparable from day one. Jen and her daughter, Gemma, gave him the love he never thought he would find.
Joel was an ever-present source of happy sunshine. His smile was infectious and often on display. Seeing all his nieces and nephew light up when they saw him and called out “Uncle Joey!” was always a sight to behold. His calm demeanor and laid back attitude provided comfort for all those who knew him. He had a heart bigger than anyone could know. It showed in his smile and his hugs. He was there for you if you needed him, no questions asked, talking with you until the answer would come. He often would say, “Doesn’t matter what; what matters is what is.” His love for others was greater than for himself and his absence will leave an emptiness in all our hearts.
He is survived by his mother, Gertie (David) Vierstra Heck; his brothers, N. Tyler (Shawna) Tvrdy, Nathan (Heidi) Heck, Noah (Heidi) Heck, and Ryan (Kim) Christensen; many nieces and nephews who will miss their Uncle Joey; the love of his life Jen Parker, and her daughter, Gemma; his brothers from another mother, Isaiah Sonner and Andrew Conway; and his paternal grandmother, Nola Christensen.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ronal Christensen; his maternal grandparents; and his paternal grandfather; along with his uncles, Mike Vierstra and Leon Christensen; cousins, Andrew Chistensen and Chris Darrington.
