Loren Edgar Johnson

March 27, 1930 ~ July 22, 2021 (age 91)


Loren Johnson, 91, resident of Buhl, passed away July 22, 2021.

Loren was born and raised in Buhl, Idaho. After graduating from high school, he joined the Navy during the Korean War. Loren was sent to officer training at Treasure Island for 18 months in the new Radar field. Loren served aboard the Attack Transport Cavalier as Petty officer 2nd class.

After four years in the Navy, Loren returned home to go into business with his father where they farmed and had a small dairy herd.

Loren married Bonnie Palmer and just recently celebrated their 67th anniversary. They had three sons, Royce, Kent, and Ryan. Loren was a co-owner of Bonnie’s Flowers and Gifts for 15 years. After selling the flower shop, Loren and Bonnie moved to Maui, Hawaii where they raised vegetables. Loren designed the first ever underground drip irrigation systems on the Islands. Many farmers from Maui came to observe this new technique.

The two returned to Buhl after several years in Maui where Loren turned to his true love of carpentry, retiring at the age of 79.

Loren was preceded in death by his son, Kent; parents, Ed and Lela; and sibling, Karen. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; sons, Royce and Ryan; brother, Larry; and sister, Genevieve.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, July 30, 2021 the Snake River Canyon National Cemetery, 1585 East Elm Street, Buhl, Idaho.
