Phyllis Uptain

Phyllis Jean Uptain, 78, a long-time resident of Buhl, passed away Sunday, November 7, 2021. She passed peacefully with her loved ones around her.

Phyllis was born October 23, 1943, in Twin Falls, the daughter of Phillip and Eva Belle Schmidt Williams. She was raised and educated in Twin Falls, graduating in 1962. Phyllis married Roy Uptain in April of 1965, they spent 55 years together.

Phyllis worked for a few years at Troy’s Laundry in downtown Twin Falls. She then spent 30 years working for a potato processing plant that started out as Idaho Frozen Foods and transitioned into Con Agri Foods when she retired.

Phyllis had many hobbies which included, crocheting, embroidery, flowers, gardening, and canning. Phyllis and her mother did craft shows during the holidays with their crocheted towels and pillowcases, dolls, and many Afghans and throws. She and her husband enjoyed camping, trips to the mountains, hunting and sport shooting. They traveled to many of our country’s great National Parks from the Black Hills to the great Alaskan frontier. Many don’t know that Phyllis was a State Champion in shooting and traveled across Idaho competing. Her greatest feat one year was outshooting her husband.

In past years we tried to give Phyllis many opportunities to do things she wanted to do to fill her bucket list. She and I played and watched many Elvis Presley movies and had many home-cooked meals and road trips. She loved going to the farmer’s market and helping me sell cinnamon rolls. I would tell her I was coming to steal her away and many times we didn’t take her back till 10 or 11 at night. She loved sneaking away. Jared programmed all the big Christmas light displays and we ate in the car, and she was just amazed at all the different kinds of lights. She loved watching the little great nieces and nephews playing. Her favorites were Zayla and Bentley. Phyllis, we will miss you.

She is survived by one sister, Valarie (Matt) Dinkel of Twin Falls, Idaho; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Eva Williams; and her brother, Richard Williams.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 19, 2021 at Farmer Funeral Chapel, 130 9th Ave North, Buhl.
